New Delhi: Kylie Jenner is one of the youngest billionaires in the world, according to Forbes magazine. She became an entrepreneur after she launched her line of makeup and cosmetics in 2015. Kylie recently launched her skincare range called “Kylie Skin” which includes a vitamin C serum, a vanilla milk toner, and a walnut scrub.
While the other products went down fine with the audience, the walnut scrub received backlash. According to reports, people took to Twitter to criticise the young billionaire for promoting the wrong products and their use, and only caring about money. People said skin care products made of walnuts were too harsh for the skin of their face. Kylie also shared videos before the launch of each product to explain its contents and usage. In the video for the walnut scrub, she said, “I recommend two or three times a week, that’s how much I use it. Some walnut face scrubs are kind of harsh on the skin. This isn’t too abrasive. It really leaves my face feeling super baby soft.” which left the audience in fumes as they believe that usage of walnut scrub, and that too so frequently can really harm their skin.
The truth behind walnut skin care products
While the effects of every skin care product are subjective and depend on a lot of factors like the kind of environment we live in, our skin type, our lifestyle, etc., some products are sure to harm our skin. This is not the first time that someone has come up with a walnut scrub. No point to Kylie for innovation. However, this may be the first time the walnut scrub is becoming such an issue, probably because it has been launched by a very famous cosmetic brand and company. When it comes to walnut scrubs and their effects on the skin, however, there is mixed opinion.
While some believe that walnuts are great exfoliators, others are totally opposed to the idea. While some beauty blogs call it the “best exfoliator for your skin”, people with experience anecdotes say it makes the skin weak, causes tears, and makes it prone to early ageing and wrinkles. Some people believe it is extremely effective in cases of blackheads and whiteheads, and some believe that though it may help in their removal, it is only harming the skin in the long term.
What exactly is a walnut face scrub?
Walnut face scrub, like the name suggests, is made with small particles of the walnut and helps in physically exfoliating the skin, by removing dead cells from the skin. However, walnut face scrubs can be bad for the skin in the sense that they can be too harsh for the soft, naive skin of the face. All physical exfoliators like coffee, sugar, etc. can be too abrasive for the skin, especially if you rub them vigorously on the skin. Using these exfoliators can cause dry, red skin and even lead to peeling.
This isn’t the first time walnut scrubs are in the limelight for the wrong reasons. In 2016, a similar case was filed by two women, against one of the leading giants of FMCG products in the world. The women had claimed that the walnut scrub produced by them had caused micro-tears on their skin.
It is recommended that you must consult your dermatologist before you use a new product on your skin, especially if you have sensitive skin or skin problems like acne, blackheads, etc. It is important to keep your skin safe to avoid the risk of bigger skin problems like skin cancer.
